Doctor Profile - Dr. Reza Omid

Dr. Omid specializes in all disorders of the shoulder and elbow, including degenerative and traumatic conditions, utilizing minimally invasive techniques.  He has extensive experience in all arthroscopic procedures, as well as arthroplasty (joint replacement) and reconstructive procedures for all shoulder and elbow conditions.  Dr. Omid is a full time faculty member and an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine.  He is a member of the Shoulder/Elbow & Sports Medicine service, a section of the University of Southern California department of orthopaedic surgery. He is also in charge of the Shoulder & Elbow Trauma service at LA County Hospital, one of the busiest Level 1 trauma centers in the world.

A native of southern California, Dr. Omid received his undergraduate education at the University of California Irvine.  He went on to receive a master’s degree in medical imaging sciences and a medical doctorate from Chicago Medical School.  After completing his medical doctorate, Dr. Omid returned to southern California to train at the University of Southern California (USC) in orthopedic surgery. During Dr. Omid’s time there, he received extensive training in upper extremity trauma at one of the world’s busiest Level 1 trauma centers, LA County Hospital.  Upon completing his residency at USC, Dr. Omid traveled to St. Louis to receive additional training in shoulder–elbow reconstruction with the world–renowned Washington University department of orthopaedic surgery, where he served as a clinical instructor of orthopaedic surgery.  During his time in St. Louis, Dr. Omid also worked with the sports medicine service at Washington University which takes care of many professional athletes including the St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Blues.  While in St. Louis, Dr. Omid received sub-specialized training in hip arthroscopy at one of the nation's busiest hip arthroscopy centers and also served as a clinical instructor at the St. Louis VA medical center.

After completing his training in St. Louis, Dr. Omid returned to Los Angeles to join the faculty at the USC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he is also on staff at the USC University Hospital.  Dr. Omid is actively involved in resident and medical student education at the USC/Keck School of Medicine and is also part of the USC Sports Medicine Fellowship.  Additionally, Dr. Omid is engaged in continuing research on shoulder and elbow disorders and has authored numerous peer–reviewed publications and book chapters on the subject matter.
